Test Rite Group acquired Master Design Inc. in March
2002, establishing a new presence for Test Rite, in
the home furnishings industry. Master Design was established
in 1990 as the marketing arm for a major Taiwan-based
furniture manufacturer that was focused on the United
States market. Following its acquisition by Test Rite,
MDI has expanded beyond the U.S. and now sells into
Canada and Europe .
Master design focuses on formal and casual dining, formal
and promotional bedrooms, table products and entertainment
furnishings. At its headquarters in Ontario , California
, Master Design has an expansive 400,000 sq. feet (foot)
distribution center and showrooms. While on the east coast
in Mississippi there's a 225,000 sq. feet (foot) distribution
center and showrooms.
Master Design's solid position in the marketplace and significant
market share in the U.S. offered a sound investment opportunity
for Test Rite Group in 2002. Although Test Rite/Master Design
launched a very aggressive sales and marketing plan for North
America , economic conditions in 2002, 2003 and 2004 as well
as new competitive pressures eroded the business plan causing
new strategies to emerge.
With new management in place and new strategic plans established
in the 2nd quarter of 2004, Master Design is repositioned
as a major resource in the United States and Canada . New
programs are being re-established with major retailers as
well as new channels of distribution that will support Master
Design's new business strategies for 2005-2007.
